Ratting In Nullsec

Ratting in Nullsec is the most commonly executed money making technique in the game. It is easy to do, a low initial investment and is very easily scalable! Also, now you can use Alpha Clones (if you change the T2 Heavy Drones to Faction).

This is accomplished in a few ways, most commonly by using a hull that specialises in Drone Damage. Why drones you ask? Well, for a start, using Drones as damage is much more economically friendly than using ammunition. More crucially though, it is because of the Auto-Aggression mechanics of drones once set to the "Aggressive" behaviour mode. See a typical drone boat fit below:

Note, in Summer 2019 the VNI recieved a Drone Bay nerf, and as such has less ISK/Hour.

As we can see, to achieve the desired effect, we will warp to the site at range - commonly between 30km-50km, immediately deploy our drones set to "Aggressive" and "Focus Fire" and begin orbiting a point with our propulsion and defensive modules activated. We may have to occassionally put in inputs dependant on pathing or aggro, but on the whole this should limit the time you spend clicking.

This in theory means you can do it on many alts at the same time - farming multiple sites at once.

Be on the lookout for Faction “True Sansha” spawns in the final wave of Havens, as they will drop faction loot. Finally beware of NPC Dreadnought spawns as they will make you go POP!

The Dynamic Bounty System

Every solar system in Lowsec and Nullsec has an ever-changing bounty multiplier that is applied to any bounty payout earned in the system. As an example, if the solar system multiplier is at 110% and you kill a pirate that has 100,000 ISK bounty, the payout will now be 110,000 ISK. However, some of that will be captured by the revamped Encounter Surveillance System (ESS), to be paid out later.

This multiplier will always be visible via the starmap so that you can locate high-value solar systems in which to hunt pirates.

This multiplier will get adjusted constantly based on what’s happening in the solar system:

Of course there’s a lot going on behind the scenes to set the rate of change, but the three points above are all you need to effectively plan your bounty hunting activities.

To ensure the DBS is not negatively effecting you, or your allies - ensure that as the Bounty Output value approaches 100% you switch ratting to a different system close by to let it recover.

Like real world agriculture, this is to prevent over-farming.

Words of Warning!

Always watch local - if any neutral or suspicious characters appear then GTFO. People being lazy while ratting is probably about 20% of the KILLS we get as an alliance, don't be one of those people.

Carrier Guide

Carriers are an even more effective - if much more expensive - way to increase your ISK/hour gained from nullsec ratting. The trade off is that you are a much bigger target for incoming enemies and you are up to 15 times more expensive than a ratting Ishtar. Furthermore you cannot easily multi-box them, so they do not scale well.

What you do receive is a ship that has enormous resistance to incoming site damage and a much better hourly rate of ISK.

Some fitting variation but you do you honey.

Ensure you are aligned to a friendly structure at all times after landing on grid. The changes to the Network Sensor Array mean that while the unit is active you CANNOT warp. You can still use the omni at risk, or change your fit for dual Sensor Boosters with Scan Resolution Scripts.

Carrier Ratting in a Warzone

How to not fly your ratting carrier...

Our space in Providence is not safe, so an interesting way to run is with no NSA - meaning you warp away like an old school ratting carrier. 3 sensor boosters will never make you lock as fast as an NSA, but with good planning, you can make some great ninja level iskies in semi safe systems!

We always advise to have a scout at a choke point and have all local Wormholes rolled before beginning.
